I Wanna Iguana!

Listen to the story and think about how the author has used persuasion.

How does Alex persuade his mom to get an iguana?

Give an example of the persuasive devices that Alex uses and explain how it is effective?

This book is written for a younger audience is it still relevant to you?

Tell about a time when you tried to persuade your parents for something? How did it go? What did you say or do to convince your parents?

1 Alex persuades his mum by making her feel sorry for the iguana if he doesn't take it.

2 If I don't take it the dog will eat it.

3 Yes because it is very persuasive and convincing and we have to learn about persuasion.

4 I persuaded my parents since I was young to let me adopt a cat, I didn't use any persuasion I just said PLEASE a lot and eventually it got annoying so they fell for it and I got a cat.

  3. Alex uses a lot of persuasive language like "I will feed him every day" and "Buy the lettuce he eats with my allowance money."

He used persuasive devices like; "I will clean his cage the same way I clean my room" and "I will make sure that he has enough water and stuff like that."

It is a bit of a funny book and I like funny books so I think this book is still a little bit relevant to me.

When we were going to Pete's emporium to look for a display board for my science fair project I spotted something that was like LEGO.I tried to persuade my mum to buy it with language like "It is cheaper than it normally was" and "I haven't got some of the parts that are featured in this set." I succeeded.

  4. Hi Miss C

    1. By sending notes to his mum and putting descriptive language, info and ending the note with "love from" or "responsible son,"

    2. Puts info about Iguanas like " Iguanas are cuter than Hamsters."

    3. Yes, because it was interesting, very persuasive and was funny. Some people might not like it though.

    4. When I was young I tried to persuade my dad to buy me a new Lego set. I said "Can I please have one?" I asked politely. My dad ask "Why?". Then I replied " If I can have it I will do all the chores." He bought me the Lego I was happy but I didn't really do any chores.

Hi its Hannah and this is what I think.
he says that he's going to get eaten, it will be quite and the way he says love your smart and mature kid Alex.

This has been written for a 3-9 kid its not supposed to be for kids my age. I give this book a 3 star *** ,but when I was 5 I would of given it a 5 star *****.

I tried to get a ipod touch like 2 years ago in December I had to nag my dad for like a week I said I need one to listen to my music and to play games and I won't ask you for anything again. he was going to Australia, and when he went he got me one, but it was part of my
x mas present I should of tried harder!!!

How does Alex persuade his mom to get an iguana?
Alex told her all the awesome things what he can do for the iguana and how great a pet it could be.

He uses emotional language like when he signs the letters he writes things like love your responsible son Alex and hugs and kisses etc.

Yes, because it shows Alex's persuasive writing and it can give us an idea of persuasive writing.

One time I didn't go to bed when my mum said on a Friday night because I was gaming. So she said that I wasn't allowed to go to rugby in the morning. I said, if I don't go on the PlayStation for the whole week that could I still go to rugby and she agreed with me.

    Dear Miss Caviglia,

These are my answers from the video.

Alex uses and explains how it is effective by writing powerful and strong letters to persuade him mum that an iguana would be cool.

This book is written for a younger audience but it still relevant to because it helps me with persusive writing and gives me good examples for writing an persuasive argument.

I tried to persuade my dad to let me go to camp last year.

It went well because I went and I had a great time and it was really fun.

I said It would be a great experience for me and when I grow up it would be something that I would remember from intermediate.

    From Te Ara.

  9. Hi Mrs. C

I think that Alex's letters to his Mum were very persuasive and filled with believable reasons why he should have an iguana.

I think that two of the things that the author used were Rhetorical questions and descriptive language like If I don't take it the dog will eat it.

I believe that even though I'm at intermediate level, I think that the book is still relevant.

I have never had to persuade my parents for anything but if I did I would want my parents to give me money to get a new videogame that I really want, I would say that if I only use the money that I have I might not have enough to buy it, Don't they care about my happiness and if I don't have enough money I won't have and I'll have to wait forever for it to get back in stock.

  10. Hello Miss C. I'm going to answer the 'I want iguana question.'
    1. Alex tells his mum how responsible he'll be (for example, he'll clean his cage, feed him, buy his food, ext.)

    2. He uses some persuasive writing like telling her about Stinky's dog Lurch trying to eat it, and getting his own house in 15 years time.

    3. The book is relevant to me because it's persuasive writing to his mum, and it's kinda funny.

    4. I have persuade my mum and dad about getting my cat Rocky. It worked out good. I told them I needed company when I get home from school, also I needed more tours instead of folding the clothes I would feed it and clean it as well.

So yeah that's all, hope you enjoyed

How does Alex persuade his mom to get an iguana?
He tries to persuade his mum by telling her that he could take care of the the iguana, by telling her that he'll clean the tank and feed it.

Give an example of the persuasive devices that Alex uses and explain how it is effective?
He uses words at the end of his letter like your caring son or your thoughtful son and Alex also uses lots of rhetorical questions.

This book is written for a younger audience is it still relevant to you?
I think it can be because, Alex tried to persuade his mum into getting him an Iguana, and people try to people to get them stuff.

Tell about a time when you tried to persuade your parents for something? How did it go? What did you say or do to convince your parents?

I haven't tried to persuade my parents into getting me something that I can remember.
